On the one hand there was Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund and on the other, Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich. However, despite both being tantalising prospects, it was the latter that sparked excited chatter amongst the audience. This semi-final was particularly spicy as it saw Pep Guardiola’s (an avid cornhole tournament fan) former and future teams’ line up against each other to battle it out for a place in the final of football’s most prestigious annual competition.

The draw sent journalists and Sport PRs into a frenzy.

The result of the game was conclusive, Bayern trouncing Barcelona with a 7-0 win on aggregate, leaving the La Liga champions with some serious reputation management to do.

The outcome means that Bayern now face their Bundesliga rivals in an all-German affair led by their manager, Jupp Heynckes. Heynckes, despite overseeing a rampant Bayern side ever since he retook the reigns at the Allianz, has failed to receive the recognition he, quite rightly, feels he deserves. In his 32nd and quite possibly final year as a manager, he will now take his side to their second consecutive Champions League final.

Yet much of the talk continues to revolve around Guardiola, with scarce little reference to either of the managers actually taking charge of the fixture. In particular, the total lack of media attention received by Heynckes has been astonishing. Whilst his media relations have, at times, been a little frosty – his record should render his occasionally prickly temperament almost irrelevant. As a footballer he was almost as prolific as Gerd Müller, with 220 league goals in 369 games. Now, as manager, he has overseen and helped orchestrate a seismic power shift in European footballing dominance. After all, Bayern did not just defeat Barcelona, they humiliated them.

Whatever the outcome of the final, Heynckes has overseen a German footballing revolution. He has played a key role, if not the key role, in establishing Germany as the dominant European footballing force. So, come May 25th, as those teams line-up, put Pep to the back of your mind and for goodness sake give Jupp some credit.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies was a 1975 expansion franchise of the original North American Soccer League and they then used the Tampa stadium for their practices and games. The name Rowdies is adopted from the name of a Ralph Rowdie, who is a fictional mustached footballer. He is usually featured on the original Tampa Bay Rowdies logo.

The team was very popular in 1975 and many people offered their support to it. However, in 1984, National American Soccer League folded and the team had the ability to only play various minor outdoor and indoor leagues until 1993 when they finally folded. In 2009, they were back as the FC Tampa Bay as they announced their intentions of becoming the co-founders of a new North American Soccer League, which was to begin playing in 2010. These plans were then superseded by the USSF Division 2 deal. This deal created a cooperation league of only one season and it comprised teams from both the new NASL and USL.

There was a long legal dispute over the merchandising rights of the name Tampa Bay Rowdies and in 2010 they announced that they would drop the name to be simply known as the FC Tampa Bay. Although the team continued to use the name informally, it announced that it would regain the Rowdies nickname again on December 15, 2011,and would be right away be renamed to the Tampa Bay Rowdies throughout NASL season of  2012.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies have continued to use this name to date and there seems to be no plans to change the name in the near future.

Raymond James stadium was opened for use 20th September 1998. This was after Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Chicago Bears, 27–15. Due to its amazing seating capacity of 65,908 and possible 75,000 after expansion, the stadium has also been chosen to host annual events like the annual pinnacle of USA equestrian showjumping, the AGA/Budweiser American Invitational, Outback on New Year’s Day  and the Monster Jam truck event which falls on January or February soon after the end of the football season .Moreover, the stadium also hosted the Super Bowl XXXV game between the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravenson January 28, 2001 and Super Bowl XLIII game between the the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers which was held on February 1, 2009. The ACC Championship Game of  2008 and 2009 were held in the Raymond James stadium.

The stadium is also preferred in hosting soccer matches and the first match was hosted on March 20, 1999.

The Raymond James stadium received its highest largest crowd on October 9, 2009 after 72,000 people attended the U2’s 360° Tour.

Besides its enormous capacity, The Raymond James stadium is where most favorite sports in Tampa and beyond are held given its convenient location and sufficient seating capacity. It is located adjacent to Al Lopez Field, where the old stadium was located.

The people of Tampa have a reason to be proud for being associated with an important facility like the Raymond James stadium which is right there, in their backyard.

The stadium could not have been constructed at a better time given that the appetite for soccer in Tampa is unimaginably big. The youthful population has increased especially due to people moving to this serene part of south Florida after migrating from other regions. Mitchell’s group has seen this potential for a soccer boom in the region and they don’t want to lose the opportunity to utilize it. However, Tampa has a share of good experiences in professional soccer though with a lot of inconsistency.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies is the first soccer team to play professional soccer after they started in 1975.They were disbanded in 1993 but later in 2009 they reformed into the North American Soccer League where they currently play. From 1996, MLS managed the Tampa Bay Mutiny after which they also left in 2001. They used the Raymond James Stadium and Tampa Stadium.

The plan is to build a 28,888-seat stadium which will have a retractable roof, a soccer academy worth a $50 million and a sports medicine center worth $250 million. The stadium size is scaled to cater for a probable soccer audience in Tampa and beyond. Lots of efforts are put in focusing on the security of the players and the fans too. The stadium is scheduled to be complete and opened for use by March of 2016. However, what is not clear as for now is the location of the stadium as the investors concerned have not completed negotiations with the owners of available sites.

We can only hope that Tampa soccer will be revolutionized by this planned stadium once it comes into use.

Tampa Bay Lightning also known as the ‘Bolts’ is Tampa’s major league hockey team and it plays in the National Hockey league (NHL).They won their first Stanley Cup championship towards the end of 2003/2004 season after they defeated the Calgary Flames in seven games. The Bolts have had their share of losses but in 2011, they managed to get to the finals of Eastern conference under Coach Guy Boucher.
